Technological Development Centre

Everbright Environmental Protection Technology Institute is the platform for research and development of environmental technologies for the Group. The institute introduces internationally advanced management concepts and attaches great importance to technological innovation. Innovative technologies are developed through in-house research and development, by importing and assimilating new technology from abroad and through joint development. Through cooperation with local and overseas renowned academic institutions and scientific research institutes, the technological development centre has strengthened the Group's research and development ability. Since its establishment, the technological development centre has obtained many patented invention and scientific research awards.

  • Technological Development


    • In-house research & development of grate furnaces and automatic control systems and development & manufacturing of related equipment

      The Group has self-developed a complete series of grate furnaces with capacities ranging from 300 to 750 tonnes per day, achieving localisation of household waste incinerator production. In addition, every technological indicator has reached an advanced international level, particularly the successful development of the 750-tonne/day grate furnace which has filled China's void in the manufacturing of large scale grate furnaces. The Group's grate furnace series has received the European Union’s CE certification.

    • Development of leachate treatment system

      The water processed by the Group's leachate treatment system complies with the standards of "Quality of Industrial Water from Recycling of Urban Waste Water", realising the goals of "100% reuse, nil discharge" of the leachate treatment projects at its waste-to-energy plants. In particular, the Group's independent research and development has formed the third generation of high efficiency anaerobic leachate treatment technology, increasing the COD removal rate from 80% to 92%.

    • Development of purification system for gas emitted from waste-to-energy plants and manufacturing of equipment

      The Group's self-developed gas treatment system has been applied to its projects already. The system is suitable for waste treatment in China due to its strong loading capacity and adaptability. It conforms to stringent emission standards and meets the EU2000/76/EC standard. The system adopts streamlined procedures which are easy to operate and manage with no waste water produced.

    • Biomass integrated utilisation technology

      Based on studies and research on the technologies and business model of agricultural waste treatment and reuse in China, the Group has established different utilisation models, including waste-to-energy and biomass power generation models, a direct combustion power generation, centralised heating, and pellet fuel. This fits the agricultural production model in China, which is extremely scattered and unit-based.

    • Sludge treatment technology

      The Group developed different treatment technologies according to different regions and requirements, and engaged in the development of equipment in collaboration with various institutions.

    • Waste water source heat pump

      The Group conducted in-depth studies of turning waste water to useful resources and developed waste water source heat pump technology. By consuming only a small amount of electricity, the technology can extract the low grade thermal energy sources in waste water to power air-conditioning for buildings in winter and summer respectively.

    • Development of decentralised household waste water treatment technology and equipment

      The Group's decentralised household waste water treatment technology is easy to operate, maintain and repair and requires low energy consumption. The quality of water processed constantly complies with Grade 1A of the Standards for Urban Waste Water Treatment.

    • Study of Food Waste Treatment

      The Group has completed preliminary research on food waste treatment technology and formed an effective treatment process to be implemented in the Group's projects.

  • Technological Collaboration


    • Introduction of advanced technology

      In order to enhance its competitive advantages, the Group has signed an agreement with MARTIN GmbH für Umwelt – und Energietechnik ("MARTIN GmbH"), a European industry leader in waste incineration technology, on utilising its grate furnace technology. By introducing the technology of German-based MARTIN GmbH, the Group will hold both self-developed and introduced advanced technology in waste incineration grate furnaces, which will effectively lower the construction and operating costs of waste-to-energy projects. The Group has also imported countercurrent rotary kiln technology and gas purification technology from Belgian company BIC, making it the only company to possess the technology in China. As such, the Group is able to provide this technology to hazardous waste incineration projects in China and other overseas markets, with customised designs. In addition, the Group has signed a cooperation framework agreement with Suez Environnment Group, the world famous environmental protection enterprise, to work together in environmental management and technology research and development. The cooperation with world-renowned environmental protection companies will further enhance the Group's technological advantages as well as strengthen the market competitiveness in the waste-to-energy industry for the Group.

    • Collaboration with research institutes and higher institutions

      The Group has been pushing forward collaborations with higher institutions and research institutes both at home and abroad. Led by the Group's technical team, the collaborations capitalise on the edge of the institutes and join forces to complement each other’s strength for mutual development. The Group has cooperated with renowned institutions in China and overseas, including Tsinghua University, Tongji University, South China University of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen University, University of North Carolina and University of Nevada, and forged a close relationship with the academia, contributing to fruitful results in technology innovation. These collaborations enhanced the technical capabilities of the Group and accelerated the rapid growth of its technology development.
