Qingzhou Bridge Commenced Operation

Fuzhou Qingzhou Bridge is invested and constructed
by China Everbright International Limited (¡§Everbright International¡¨).
After four years of construction, the Bridge was completed
and passed for quality check on 25 December 2002. The structure
of the Bridge is cable-stayed bridge, with twin pylons and
two planes of cables. With a main span of 605 meters, it is
the longest cable-stayed span structure in the world. According
to the PRC media, the Bridge has been selected by the Worldwide
Bridge Conference, to be held in Shanghai in 2004, as one
of the twenty most representative bridges in China.
Qingzhou Bridge, located in the center of
the transportation hub, connects Mawei Economic Development
Zone in Fuzhou in the north and links Changle City in the
south. It is a major bridge connecting the ¡§Tongsan Expressway¡¨
(a coastal expressway in eastern China that runs from Heilongjiang
in the north to Hainan Province in the south) over Minjiang
(towards south passing through Quanzhou and Xiamen and towards
north passing through Wenzhou in Zhejiang and Ningbo. It is
also a short cut for Fuzhou City to Changle International
Airport.
Qingzhou Bridge commenced its trial test
on 28 December 2002 and official commercial operation started
on 29 December 2002. Luo Chang Highway (an important section
of ¡§Tongsan Expressway¡¨ in Fujian) which passes through this
Bridge to reach Minjiang also commences operation. With approval
from relevant parties in Fujian and Fuzhou City, Fuzhou Guang
Min Road and Bridge Construction & Development Company
Limited, a subsidiary of Everbright International possesses
the rights to charge toll fees from automobiles.
