China Everbright International Limited (“Everbright International” or the “Group”; Stock code: 257) announced today that the Group has successfully obtained the Suzhou solid waste landfill project and the Wuxi City Jiangyin Waste-to-Energy Project.

The Suzhou solid waste landfill project is located in the Suzhou Everbright Environmental Industry Zone, which will provide exclusive services to the entire Suzhou Region, Changshu, Kunshan, Taicang, Zhangjiagang and Wujiang city region. The project scale amounted to a total of 600,000 cubic meters, of which the scale of Phase I is totaled to 100,000 cubic meters. The total investment for Phase I is approximately RMB 80 million. The Group has obtained a concession right for 30 years. The project is currently under construction and is expected to commence operation in 2007. This is the third project of the Suzhou Everbright Environmental Industry Zone after the construction of the Suzhou Waste-to-Energy Project and the methane-to-energy project, which represented the initial establishment of the Industrial Zone invested by Everbright International.

In addition, the Group successfully undertook the project of Jiangyin waste-to-energy plant in Wuxi region. The project is designed with a total daily processing capacity of 1,200 tonnes. The daily processing capacity and the annual processing capacity of Phase I will be 800 tonnes and 270,000 tonnes respectively, which has an electricity production of approximately 80 million kilowatt/hour. The project will be operated on a BOT basis with a concession right of 30 years and a total investment of approximately HK$307 million. Moreover, the project has been assigned as one of the key projects in Jiangsu Province for 2006 to 2007. It is located at close proximity to Suzhou and Yixing Plant, which forms geographic advantages and enables the Group to effectively facilitate centralized management, reduce management and operational cost and generate immense synergies, contributing to the favorable condition for the Group to further tap into the Yangzi Delta Region and enhance the investment return of the Group.

With rapid economic development, Jiangyin Province was ranked the first of “Top 100 Provinces in the PRC” for a couple of years, selected No. 1 of “Province with Highest Investment Value in Yangzi Delta” and was accredited awards such as “The Environmental Protection Model City of the Nation” and “Top Ten Hygienic City”.
