Suzhou solid waste landfill commenced operation & foundation laid for expansion of Suzhou waste-to-energy plant

Group will implement expansion of the Solid Waste Phase II and III in time in accordance with the actual capacity requirements. This will ensure all the hazardous wastes generated in Suzhou city will be treated safely. The project has already signed hazardous wastes treatment service agreements with eight enterprises in Suzhou city. The ashes generated by the waste-to-energy plants, recycled hazardous waste or residue after burning and waste with heavy metal generated in industrial processes will all be properly treated through the "pre-solidification treatment and safe landfill" process.

Extension of the Suzhou Waste-to-energy Phase II of capacity 1,000 tonnes is the Group's first project to move into second phase development. The total investment of the extension work is RMB450 million. Designed to process 1,000 tonnes of household waste per day, the additional facility will be completed by the end of 2008. By then, the entire plant will be able to process 2,000 tonnes of waste per day and generate about 200 million kilowatt hours of electrical power per year for the power grids. Suzhou Waste-to-energy Project will become the largest waste-to-energy plant in Mainland China.

The expansion of the Suzhou waste-to-energy project showing the Group's strategy of focusing on developing environmental protection business in more affluent areas in the country. It also showed that China Everbright International has the ability to help the country address pollution and shortage of resources resulting from rapid economic development and achieve sustainable growth using very effective business models. That will help to enhance the ‘Everbright Environment' brand.

Work on Suzhou Waste-to-energy Phase II will follow the same format and standard of Phase I. The Group will have exclusive right to operate Phase II for 23 years on BOT (build-operate-transfer) basis. Advanced equipment including incinerators and gas purification, automation and online monitoring systems imported from overseas are installed and the emission level of dioxin met the Euro II emission standard.

With Suzhou Phase I solid waste landfill in operation and the expansion of the Suzhou waste-to-energy project, the Group will be able to more effectively help the city's authority address pollution arising amid rapid economic development. The Group will continue to seek business opportunities in other prosperous areas in the country and develop and operate environmental protection projects using its proven business model and management skills. The Group will continue to contribute to the well-being of society and maximize returns to shareholders.
