Everbright International CEO Chen Xiaoping Ranks Among the 2017 Best-Performing CEOs in China

Hong Kong — 8 November 2017, China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International", SEHK stock code: 00257) is pleased to announce that Mr. Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International, ranks 14th on the list of The Best-Performing CEOs in China (the "List") 2017 published by Harvard Business Review. First launched in 2016, the List aims to recognise the long-term value generated by company management.

Mr. Chen Xiaoping joined Everbright International as CEO since 2001. In 2003, he was determined to shift the company's business focus to the environmental protection industry. Under his leadership, Everbright International has become a world-leading one-stop integrated environmental solution provider. Since its business transformation, the company's total assets have increased 25 times and its revenues have increased 69 times. In addition, the profit attributable to equity holders of the company have increased 512 times, and cash on hand has increased 84 times. Return on shareholders' equity has been in the double digits over many years.

When it comes to pushing forward with the rapid and stable development of the company, Mr. Chen Xiaoping sticks to the core corporate value that "An enterprise is not only the Creator of Wealth, but also the Safeguard of Environmental and Social Responsibility". He believes that an enterprise should promote social responsibility while seeking business development. For an environmental protection company, it needs to act as a practitioner and supporter of environmental responsibility, which is the basis for its success. Everbright International has been committed to facilitating its own sustainable development, with its achievements recognised by the international communities over the past few years. Having been selected as a constituent stock of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index for four consecutive years and included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for two years successively, the company was also included in the FTSE4Good Index for the first time this year. In 2016, Everbright International was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the first time, becoming the only Chinese company and Hong Kong-listed company that was added to the index that year.

With Mr. Chen Xiaoping at the helm of Everbright International, the company has moved into the first-tier of the global waste to energy industry. It has launched "Three Firsts" initiative, making the company the first to adopt the Euro 2000 standard when developing waste-to-energy projects in China; the first to connect with local environmental protection departments to share emissions data of its projects as a means of allowing supervision from local governments and the public; and the first to disclose all environmental management information of its operating waste-to-energy projects in the interests of public supervision. This is a testament to Everbright International's leading position in promoting information transparency in the industry as well as its pro-activeness, strength and commitment to its corporate responsibility.

Mr. Chen Xiaoping is a Deputy President of the Chinese Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association, a Vice Chairman of the All-China Environment Federation, and a Standing Director of the China Environmental Culture Promotion Association. He also heads the global expert team that develops the United Nations' PPP standards on solid waste-to-energy projects, and serves as Chairman of the Waste-to-energy Research and Technology Council-Asia. In addition, he was a researcher at the China International Economic Development Research Centre and a guest researcher at Columbia University in the U.S. Mr. Chen Xiaoping has received a number of honors including "Green China, Outstanding Environmental Protection Leader", as well as "2010-2011 Man of the Year in China's Green Industry" granted d by eight PRC governmental departments and committees, including the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of the PRC. He was also named Asia's Best CEO for five consecutive years between 2013 and 2017.
