Everbright International's Environmental Technology Debuts in Africa

7 September 2018, Hong Kong - China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257) is pleased to announce that a waste-to-energy project in Ethiopia in Africa, which is equipped with a leachate treatment system manufactured by Everbright International's equipment manufacturing company based on an EPC model, recently commenced operation. This waste-to-energy project is Africa's first project of this type and the first Sino-Ethiopia joint project in the environmental protection sector. It also signifies the first implementation of the Group's self-developed and self-manufactured leachate treatment system in the African market.

The waste-to-energy project in Ethiopia, located in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, has a waste processing capacity of 1,200 tonnes/day and is equipped with two 600 tonnes/day waste incinerators and two 25MW turbine power generators. The project is owned by the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation, with China National Electric Engineering Co. Ltd. being responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project. Everbright International's equipment manufacturing company stood out from the fierce competition and eventually accomplished the construction of the ancillary leachate treatment system that has a designed daily treatment capacity of 220 tonnes, based on an EPC model. Prior to this, the Group had introduced its self-developed and self-manufactured grate furnaces for waste incineration in overseas markets including Vietnam. During the first half of the year, the revenue from the equipment sales of Everbright International's equipment manufacturing company doubled compared with the same period of 2017, with over half of the capacity serving its peers both in China and abroad.

Mr. Wang Tianyi, CEO of Everbright International, said, "The project in Ethiopia signifies the implementation of the Group's self-developed leachate treatment system in the overseas market for the very first time. In addition to the export of the Group's grate furnaces to overseas markets including Vietnam, it demonstrates that Everbright International's equipment and technologies are well recognised by the overseas markets. The project is another successful case of the Group in terms of continuing pursuing development driven by technological innovation and exploring overseas business through technology export. Continued effort in enhancing the ability of technological and equipment innovation has become a key engine to support the company's competitiveness and profitability. Everbright International will fully leverage its comprehensive advantages in the areas of investment, construction, operation, technology, management, among others. While focusing on the Chinese market expansion, the Group will also actively and properly explore overseas markets, especially in the areas of technology and equipment exports. In the meantime, it will enhance its core competitiveness and seek high-quality, sustainable development, while boosting investment in technology R&D and enhancing its overall strength."
