Dr. Wang Tianyi, CEO of China Everbright International Limited, attends the FutureChina Global Forum 2019 in Singapore


Singapore, 7 June 2019 – Dr. Wang Tianyi, CEO of China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International"), was invited to attend FutureChina Global Forum (FCGF) 2019 in Singapore, where he had in-depth discussions on the new roles of China and new trends in China in the area of sustainable development with guests from the government, business and academia around the globe.

Organized by Singapore Business China, the FCGF 2019 was themed with Sustainable Development in a Dynamic World Order. The event brought together about 600 guests from governments, businesses, universities, think tanks, international organizations and media from both China and Singapore, who had a profound exchange of insights and analyses on sustainable development, development of the "Belt and Road" initiative, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, green finance, among others. The forum was attended by Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore; Mr. Heng Swee Keat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of Singapore; and Mr. Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of Global Green Growth Institute.

Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien Loong attended the Business China Awards Presentation Gala Dinner and responded to questions raised for him. Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Heng Swee Keat attended the opening ceremony of the forum and delivered a speech, saying that sustainable development is crucial to the economic growth and improvement of people’s livelihood. In order to further promote sustainable development, it is suggested to form and deepen collaborations and partnerships among countries, to actively encourage all segments of our societies – governments, businesses and individuals – to work together, and to pass on the spirit of sustainability to the next generation.

During the speech at the forum, Dr. Wang Tianyi shared his insights and suggestions on the development of zero-waste cities and the green "Belt and Road" initiative. He pointed out that the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city, which has been listed as one of the pilot cities for China’s zero-waste city initiative, comes under attention. Separately, the Minister of Environment and Water Resources of Singapore was invited to serve as Co-chairman of the BRI International Green Development Coalition, which was officially launched at the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. With closer cooperation in ecological and environmental protection between the two countries, Singapore has been providing China with extensive experience in environmental protection and management. In terms of climate change, Dr. Wang suggested that we should further promote education on climate issues worldwide, by integrating environment and climate issues through critical thinking, as well as by differentiating such issues according to specific conditions at the stage of implementation.

During the FCGF 2019, Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Heng Swee Keat met with Dr. Wang Tianyi and other major guests attending the event. At the meeting, Dr. Wang introduced to Mr. Heng Swee Keat that Everbright International maintains a close tie with Singapore, as Singapore's national sovereign fund is one of the major shareholders of the company, and one of the company’s subsidiary company China Everbright Water Limited is listed in Singapore. Dr. Wang also briefed Mr. Heng Swee Keat about the business and development of Everbright International, with an emphasis on the company’s effort in and contribution to promoting the development of zero-waste cities and the green "Belt and Road" initiative. Dr. Wang also expressed the company’s will of continuing the good cooperation with Singapore and jointly promoting green sustainable development. Everbright International’s effort in promoting the development of zero-waste cities and the green "Belt and Road" initiative was well recognized by Mr. Heng Swee Keat. He pointed out that some universities and research institutes in Singapore are currently studying topics relating to zero-waste city. Singapore is also willing to develop an in-depth partnership with Everbright International so as to joint promote the development of zero-waste cities in China.
