Everbright International Launches China Everbright Green Technology Innovation Research Institute in Hong Kong
Aiming at a World-class Center Dedicated to Green Technological Innovation and Commercialisation of Research Results


On 12 September 2019, China Everbright Green Technology Innovation Research Institute (the "Institute") was launched in Hong Kong Science & Technology Park (HKSTP). The Institute marks the first offshore technological research and development ("R&D") institute under Everbright Group. Li Xiaopeng, Chairman of Everbright Group; Tan Tieniu, Deputy-Director of the Liaison Office of the Centre People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR (the "Liaison Office"); CHAI Ngai Chiu, Chairman of the Board of the HKSTP Corporation; and Cai Yunge, Deputy General Manager of Everbright Group all attended the unveiling ceremony in celebration of the launch of the Institute. The ceremony was also attended by Wang Tianyi, CEO of Everbright International; Jiang Jianxiang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office; Wong Hak-keung, CEO of the HKSTP Corporation; Lam Kwan-sing, Vice-President of City University of Hong Kong; Feng Xiang, General Manager of the Department of Coordinated Development at Everbright Group; Xu Jinlin, Deputy General Manager of the Department of Strategic Development at Everbright Group; Raymond Wong, CFO of Everbright International; and Yang Shiqiao, Deputy General Manager of Everbright International.

The unveiling ceremony for the launch of the Institute


The Institute was established by Everbright International and will become the global R&D headquarters of the company. With a focus on Hong Kong, a deep-rooted foundation in the Mainland and a global vision, the Institute aims to attract advanced technologies and talent in order to become a platform for the commercialisation of green technologies, a center for exchanges and collaboration on technologies worldwide, a hub for technology collaboration in the Mainland, and also a center for exchanges and trainings among global talents. The launch of the Institute marks important moves of Everbright Group to engage in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and facilitate Hong Kong to become a global innovation and technology hub. These moves will firmly support the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong, as well as prosperity and stability of the city. The launch of the Institute also demonstrates that Everbright International's strategy of "Creating Future with Green Power and Pursuing Development through Technology" has taken root in Hong Kong and begins to develop gradually.

Prior to the ceremony, Li Xiaopeng, Cai Yunge and Wang Tianyi conducted a pleasant discussion with representatives from the HKSTP Corporation and scholars from universities in Hong Kong, topics including an introduction to the development of the HKSTP Corporation and its major achievements, potential coordination between Everbright Group and the HKSTP Corporation to boost technological innovation, the use of Everbright Group's advantages in industry and finance to provide full-fledged financial services to HKSTP in future, among others.

Cai Yunge, Wong Hak-keung and Lam Kwan-sing addressed at the unveiling ceremony respectively to congratulate the launch of the Institute. Cai said in his speech that Everbright International is devoted to the development philosophies that science and technology are primary productive forces, with innovation as the primary driving force. The company strives to develop its brands of "Intelligent Manufacturing by Everbright International" and "Intelligence by Everbright International", and continues boosting its core competitiveness in technology and innovation. The Institute is expected to stay deeply entrenched in Hong Kong, pursue good coordination between Hong Kong and the Mainland, and focus on tackling technological challenges, with the spirit of openness and inclusiveness. It is also expected to become a world-class center dedicated to the R&D, commercialisation and cultivation of ecological and environmental technologies, backed by the support from the mainland, with a focus on Hong Kong and a global vision. The Institute will strive to contribute to the innovation and technology development in Hong Kong, as well as the prosperity and stability of the city. It will also make a greater contribution to China's ecological progress and the world's environmental protection and management.

As an active force that facilitates the progress of China's environmental protection technologies, Everbright International regards technology and innovation as the core driving forces for its development. At the ceremony, Everbright International has reached strategic cooperation with universities in Hong Kong, including the Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Control and Treatment of Heavy Metal Pollution (Hong Kong Branch) at HKUST, the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong. Additionally, Li Xiaopeng also handed over the letter of appointment to Prof. Chen Guanghao from HKUST, appointing him as an advisor to the Institute, marking the beginning of the collaboration between Everbright International and the universities in Hong Kong.
