Everbright International Included in Dow Jones Sustainability Index for Fourth Year Running


Hong Kong, 16 September 2019 – China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 257) is pleased to announce that the Group has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index for the fourth consecutive year, as a result of its outstanding performance in sustainable development over the past year. It is one of the two companies from the Mainland China that have been included in the Emerging Markets Index this year. According to criteria of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), the Hong Kong SAR belongs to the Asia-Pacific region, while the Mainland China and Taiwan belong to the emerging markets category, which Chinese companies with their headquarters in Hong Kong fall into. The latest review of the DJSI are effective on Monday, 23 September 2019.

The DJSI have been long regarded as internationally-recognised benchmarks that measure social responsibility and sustainable development. Launched in 1999, the DJSI are compiled on an annual basis by Dow Jones and the RobecoSAM Group, an investment specialist focused on sustainable investment. Using a "best-in-class" approach, the DJSI assess the performance of companies with leading sustainable performance across the world based on economic, environmental and social aspects, taking an investment perspective to evaluate companies' sustainable development capabilities. As the longest-running global sustainability scoring system, the DJSI have become a crucial reference for investors and companies.

According to the assessment, Everbright International falls into the Commercial & Professional Services industry group under the emerging markets category. Among all the company participants for this year, the Group received an overall score of 62, which is much higher than the industry average of 38, with outstanding performance in the risk management, environmental and social dimensions, particularly in the areas of risk and crisis management, supply chain management, environmental management system, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, human capital development, occupational health and safety, social reporting, among others.
