As a responsible corporate citizen, we are keen to reduce impacts on the environment from our daily operations. To fulfill and even exceed the expectations of our stakeholders, we have implemented various measures to strengthen our environmental performance. Most of our operating plants are certified to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to avoid secondary pollution during the production process. This demonstrates our dedication in meeting the international standards of environmental management system. A structured and systematic mechanism has been established to integrate environmental safeguards in project planning, preparation, design and implementation stage. We are committed to ensuring that our operations adhere to the requirements of national standards and international financial institutions such as Asian Development Bank.
As an environmental protection enterprise using renewable energy to generate electricity and provide water environment management, we continue to play a significant role in combating climate change. As of 2017, our environmental protection projects produced approximately 19.5 billion kWh of green electricity. This output can support the annual electricity consumption needs of over 16.28 million households, and is equivalent to saving approximately 7.81 million tonnes of standard coal and can reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately 21.37 million tonnes. Meanwhile, our projects treated approximately 7 billion m3 waste water and approximately 9.58 million m3 of leachate produced from the waste-to-energy process, in addition to the reduction of approximately 2,430,000 tonnes of COD emissions.
