The Group had secured 363 environmental protection projects, which command a total investment exceeding RMB110 billion.
As Asia's largest waste-to-energy investor and operator, the Group's environmental energy sector covers a number of areas, including: waste-to-energy, food waste treatment, leachate treatment, methane-to-energy, sludge treatment and disposal, as well as the investment and construction of environmental industrial parks.
As at 30 June 2019, the Group had 106 waste-to-energy projects (including 2 operations and maintenance projects), 13 food waste treatment projects, 3 landfill leachate treatment projects, 2 methane-to-energy projects, 3 sludge treatment and disposal projects, 1 fecal treatment project and 1 fly ash landfill project, with a total investment of approximately RMB58.209 billion. These projects have a total designed annual household waste processing capacity of approximately 36.21 million tonnes, which can generate annual on-grid electricity of approximately 11.7 billion kWh. The total designed annual sludge treatment capacity is approximately 73,000 tonnes, and the total designed annual food waste treatment capacity is approximately 695,000 tonnes.
The Group's greentech sector covers various business areas, including: integrated biomass utilisation, hazardous and solid waste treatment and environmental remediation. China Everbright Greentech Limited ("Greentech") is a listed company on the Main Board of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited. As at 30 June 2019, the Group held a 69.70% stake in Everbright Greentech.
As at 30 June 2019, Greentech had 107 projects, including: 52 integrated biomass utilisation projects, 45 hazardous and solid waste treatment projects, 7 solar energy projects and 2 wind power projects, all of which command a total investment of approximately RMB28.305 billion. The aggregate annual designed processing capacity of biomass raw materials was 8.82 million tonnes; the annual household waste processing capacity was approximately 3.41 million tonnes; the annual hazardous and solid waste treatment capacity stood at approximately 1.84 million tonnes; the annual on-grid electricity generation was approximately 7.2 billion kWh; and the annual heat supply was approximately 2.11 million tonnes. In addition, Everbright Greentech tapped into the environmental remediation field during the year under review. It has undertaken a total of 9 environmental remediation services, with a total contract value of approximately RMB187 million.
The Group's environmental water business sector covers a number of areas, including: water environment management, sponge city construction, river-basin ecological restoration, water supply, waste water treatment, reusable water, waste water source heat pump, sludge treatment and disposal, leachate treatment, as well as technology R&D and engineering construction relating to environmental water. China Everbright Water Limited ("Everbright Water") is a listed company on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited and the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited. As at 30 June 2019, the Group held a 72.57% stake in Everbright Water.
As at 30 June 2019, Everbright Water had a total of 121 projects, including: 91 municipal waste water treatment projects (including 2 upgrading projects and 5 sludge treatment and disposal facilities), 10 industrial waste water treatment projects, 1 leachate treatment project, 6 water environment management projects, 4 water supply projects, 7 reusable water projects and 2 waste water source heat pump projects, commanding a total investment of approximately RMB22.42 billion. These projects have an aggregate designed annual waste water treatment capacity of approximately 1.8 billion m3 and have an annual reusable water supply capacity of approximately 75.41 million m3. The waste water source heat pump projects are built to offer heating and cooling services to an area of 295,000 m2. The water supply projects have a designed annual water supply capacity of 310million m3.
In the first half of 2019, the Group closely followed the national policy trends and grasped development opportunities accordingly. Through the implementation of key initiatives, such as acquisition of talent, enhancement of technology capacity, launch of new products, enhancement of productivity and offering of excellent services, the Group's equipment manufacturing sector saw continued improvement of its overal competitiveness. Additionally, phase III of the Group's equipment manufacturing centre in Changzhou City completed construction. It will expand the equipment manufacturing capacity of the Group.
The Group has currently established an integrated waste-to-energy system with a full set of intellectual property rights, covering grate furnaces, gas purification systems, leachate treatment systems and automatic control systems. The Group launched a series of cutting-edge products that demonstrate its technological strengths in environmental protection equipment manufacturing in China, which shows that it not only commands a top-tier position in the domestic environmental protection industry, but has also successfully strengthened its influence in the industry abroad.
The opportunities presented by China's "Belt and Road" initiative, and favorable policies relating to high-end equipment manufacturing, have provided support for the Group's core and self-developed equipment to become the environmental protection equipment of choice in the industry, facilitating the Group to raise the profile and reputation of the "Intelligent Manufacturing by Everbright International" brand.
Adhering to technology and innovation to enhance internal motivation and core competitiveness is the target pursued by Everbright International. Additionally, investment in innovative technology requires persistence. In the first half of 2019, the Group conducted substantial reforms in relation to technological innovation. A technology management center and a technology committee were established at the headquarters of Everbright International, which further confirmed the importance of technological innovation on the development of the Group. The Group also prepared for the establishment of green technology innovation and research institute, a zero-waste city research institute and an ecological and environmental planning and design institute. The Group proactively supported the industrial-academic collaborations within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. It proactively experimented with innovative technology and business models relating to zero-waste cities and enhanced the recruitment of leading talent. It also created values by promoting integrated development.
As at 30 June 2019, the Group had been granted 667 patents in total, including 99 invention patents, 530 utility model patents, 4 appearance patents, and 34 software copyright licenses.
As a new business sector of the Group, eco-recycling actively explored business opportunities in waste sorting, environmental and sanitary services, and renewable resources utilisation, with satisfactory results.
In the first half of 2019, the Group invested RMB45 million to obtain a 90% equity interest in a technology enterprise that focuses on the waste sorting business, marking the Group’s foray into the waste sorting and resources recycling sectors, with the main business covering research and development, manufacturing and the sale of smart waste recycling machines, as well as sorting, collecting and transporting waste and reusing resources through the “Internet +” model. Separately, the Group secured Hubei Zhongxiang Environmental Sanitation Integration Project in Hubei Province and Yunnan Yuxi Environmental Sanitation Integration Project.
In the first half of 2019, the Group continued closely following China's overseas development strategies like the "Belt and Road" initiative. By leveraging on its advantages in investment, operation, management, technology and equipment, the Group proactively looked for exchange and communication opportunities globally, with an open, co-operative and win-win attitude, in an effort to increase the proportion of its overseas business in its overall business.
