Everbright International Chosen as a Constituent Stock of Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index for the Third Consecutive Year

5 September 2016, Hong Kong - China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257) is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a constituent stock of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index and will be included in the Hang Seng (Mainland and HK) Corporate Sustainability Index for the third year running. In addition, the Group has continued to be a constituent member of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index for the sixth consecutive year.

This year, a total of 93 Hong Kong-listed companies have been selected as constituent members of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index. Among these companies, the top 30 performers in sustainable development, such as corporate social responsibility, corporate governance and environmental management, were selected as constituent stocks of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index. In order to provide a high-quality benchmark for sustainable development investment, the assessment process has taken into consideration the results of a sustainability evaluation conducted by an independent professional assessment body.

Everbright International has always played an active role in promoting the sustainable development of society and has continued to undertake its corporate social responsibilities. The Group took the lead in disclosing emission data and environmental management information of its operating waste-to-energy projects in August 2015 and has started to disclose emission standards on a daily basis since May this year, which have made the Group continue to be a leading player in promoting information transparency in the industry and further demonstrate the Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibilities. In addition, the Group has been invited by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe International PPP Centre of Excellence to lead the development of the United Nations' PPP standards on waste-to-energy projects, in order to support the United Nation's sustainable development goals.
