Everbright International Wins Henan Xinzheng Waste-to-energy Project

Successfully Extending its Footprint in Henan Province by Strategically Expanding from Coastal Areas to Inland Cities

7 Aug 2014, Hong Kong – China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257) is pleased to announce that it has won the bid for the Henan Xinzheng City Household Waste-to-energy Project ("Xinzheng Project" or the "Project") with a leading score in the overall bidding process. Xinzheng Project will be the first environmental protection project that the Group has invested in Henan province. The Group will build the Project into an environmental protection showcase project for household waste processing in the city.

Xinzheng Project will be constructed on a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) basis for a concession period of 30 years. It will be constructed in two phases and will have a total designed daily household waste processing capacity of 1,500 tonnes. The Project Phase I has a designed daily household waste processing capacity of 1,000 tonnes, commanding a total investment of approximately RMB520 million. It will be equipped with two 500t/d furnaces and one 20MW electricity generator to generate on-grid electricity of 113,000,000 kWh annually. All gas emissions will comply with the Euro 2000 Standard and the leachate treatment will meet the plant's reutilization requirements.

Located in the central part of Henan province, Xinzheng City is a county-level city under the administration of Zhengzhou. It is also one of the major economically developed cities in Henan province and is regarded as one of the top 100 counties among county-level economies across China. Currently, there is only one refuse landfill in Xinzheng City but the city is facing problems of shortage of storage capacity even though the landfill has already been expanded. Following the completion of the Xinzheng Project, the environment in Xinzheng City is expected to improve considerably as a result of the harmless treatment, reduction and reuse of household waste.

Mr. Chen Xiaoping, CEO of Everbright International, said, "Xinzheng Project is another landmark project demonstrating the Group's new development in inland cities following its traditional existing projects in coastal cities. It also marks a crucial step in the Group's positioning in the environmental protection sector in central China. The successful bid of Xinzheng Project demonstrates the Group's core competitive advantages and its leading strength in market development. The Project will significantly enhance the Group's influence in Henan province and central China by serving as a benchmark project and thus laying a solid foundation for the Group's long-term development in the region."
